After many years of private clinical practice, Georgie is now focusing on working in the Northern Adelaide Pain Rehabiliation Service and in providing education for health professionals. Here is a summary of her philosophy.
Traditionally physiotherapy has incorporated hands on techniques, exercises and educational programs to assist people with pain, illness and those wanting to develop their physical abilities. But our bodies are connected to a mind flushed with thoughts and emotions. You may have noticed that what you are thinking and feeling influences your health and wellbeing. Scientific research is helping us to understand this body-mind connection and to provide guidance in treatment and management strategies that address the whole person. These findings are changing the face of physiotherapy. Our educational focus is to provide health professionals with the skills and attributes to address the complexity of persisent pain via the realtionship to this challenging experience - that of the therapist and the client. How we respond to challenge effects how much pain is experienced, particpation in life and general health.
