This course was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts in 1979. This course is now accepted as a valuable approach for facilitating physical and psychological health. It is offered in many medical settings, and in modified forms in schools, universities, workplaces and prisons over the world. In healthcare, it is at the forefront of participatory medicine.

MBSR is an educational-based course of 30 hours: eight 2.5 - 3.0 hour sessions and one full day. Mindfulness meditation, mindful movement and health education form the core of the program. The course is an invitation to live fully through the development of mindfulness as a life skill. It is worthy of the commitment that is expected of participants, who, for the duration of the course are recommended to dedicate time each day to home practice.
